Short Biography of Shree Maharaj

Shree Bhagwat informed about the illness of Shree Maharaj to his father at Ratnagiri. As per the advice of his father, his elder brother Shree Dattatrey (Sridhar) came to Pune and took Shree Maharaj to Ratnagiri. Shree Maharaj was ill for a number of days. After recovering from the illness, he stayed at Ratnagiri and continued his school education.

During this time, at Pomendi ( BU ) his sister Smt. Godabai and at Someshwar his grandfather Shri Narayan Daji Sovani, expired. Within a few days, after this, his father also expired at Pomendi (BU). After the expiry of his father, there was a quarrel in the family and hence Shree Maharaj went to Someshwar and stayed along with his maternal uncle.

After six months he returned to his home at native place at Pomendi (BU) and started looking after the family property alongwith his brother. And simultaneously he continued his daily routine, like worshipping God, saying prayers after bath and meditation. Because of his extreme intelligence, excellent memory, minute and close observation, continuous vigilant imaginative power and blessings from Sadguru Shree Baba Maharaj he started Kirthans, (Narration of religious topics punctuated by music), lectures on religious matter and speeches to educate the public as well as bringing the people together.

During school education itself, he developed great devotion to the Nation as well as ones own Religion. While he was in Ratnagiri, he used to meet the freedom fighter Shri Sawarkar and Shree Maharaj was inspired to take part in the revolutionary agitation. In those days he used to wear Khaddar dress.

Because he took active part in agitation, the police were after him. To escape from the police, he used to walk long distances and covered hundreds of miles by foot. During such a long walk, he met Shree Gagangiri Maharaj at Gagangad hills near Kolhapur. Gagangad is a famous peak of the mountain Sahyadri. On that, mountain, near the peak, there are a number of caves. On this famous Sahyadri Peak, important Saints of Nathseet like Machhindranath, Gorakshnath and Gahininath used to assemble and hold a court. As per Shree Gagangiri Maharaj during the time of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the coins of Maratha Kingdom used to be prepared. In such a historical place, the meeting of Shree Digambardas Maharaj and Shree Gagangiri Maharaj took place.
