Organisational Capacity And Administrative Efficiency

The Trust, Shree Sant Seetarambua Walawalkar Charitable Trust, (SSWCT) was set up with primary aim of constantly reminding every member of the society of the obligation of the social service (providing basic necessities of life to the poor) doing everything possible for its continuation for the spread of the message of devotion. It was registered with the Bombay Charity Commissioner on July 17, 1969. Shree Digambardas Maharaj was the chief guide and inspiration to his devotees who were suitably moulded and trained by him. Some of these devotees were made Trustees.

The Trust, Shree Vitthalrao Joshi Charities Trust (SVJCT) was set up on the similar lines. Besides, the devotees wanted to make their preceptor an institution and keep his memories immortal. They pleaded with him, Shree Vitthalrao Joshi Charities Trust was formed and registered with the Bombay Charities Commissioner on October 17, 1977. The Trustees were same as those of the SSWCT Trust.

Both these trusts are the two sides of the same coin. The Trusts carried out immense activities big and small during these years. Their administration is strong and accounts transparent. The volunteers who work under the guidance of Shree Digambardas Maharaj (1969 to 1989), and now His successor Shree Kaka Maharaj, are selfless dedicated devotees of Shree Digambardas Maharaj. There is a code of conduct as laid down in the Vedas (the Holiest Hindu scriptures) and strict discipline is enforced. The Trusts have 1,000 volunteers and only a couple of administrative staff. All the volunteers are available on call at any time. The dealings are purchases or disbursements. The accounts are submitted regularly to the charity commissioner. Both the Trust have income tax exemption under section 80G. When the hospital project was started, the Government of India gave a special status to the Shree Vitthalrao Joshi Charities Trust. Under this, any donations made to the Trust for the Hospital project are 100% exempted under section 35 AC of the Indian income tax act. This proves the financial credibility of the Trust.

The Trusts, have undertaken gigantic activities as listed above. All this has been done successfully and on time because of its enormous organisational capacity and administrative efficiency. A very glaring example, is that of the Hospital Building - an area of 20,000 sq.ft. was constructed and the hospital building became operational in just 7 months (Bhumi Puja was done and work commenced on June 24, 1995 and inauguration took place on February 01, 1996). The Doctors' quarters, Nurses' quarters, technicians' quarters, blood bank building, recreation hall, water tank etc. - an area of 60,000 sq.ft. - was constructed in a record time of 18 months. Benevolent activities of the Trusts sent tremors through the spines of the local politicians and corrupt leaders when they realised that their vested interest are about to be affected, as the Trusts were putting relentless efforts to improve the living conditions of the oppressed villagers. They started harassing the Trusts with the help of Government Machinery. Their vested interest was in keeping the villagers oppressed. These politicians used the Government Machinery for putting all the hurdles in the way of the Trusts' work. The Trusts struggled their way successfully out of their wicked ploys. This was only because of the extraordinary organisational capacity and strong administration, leadership and guidance of Shree Digambardas Maharaj and Shree Kaka Maharaj.

In the 28 years of existence, the Trust had only three Fund Raising Programmes. The funds are generated through donations from the Trustees and volunteers. Amongst them the ex-Trustee late Mr. K. L. Walawalkar and his family is the maximum contributor. The cost stipulated in the above projects are only cost of material. The volunteers and Trustees serve without taking a penny for their time and resources spent.

The Trusts have been shy of publicity and have avoided all the types of media publicity. They continue to work in a silent manner. They have never applied for any Government or Private recognitions nor asked for any aid from Government. Infact the aid offered by the Government was humbly rejected by the Trusts several times.
