The Shri Vithalrao Joshi Charities Trust is a multifaceted humanitarian organization dedicated to the social, spiritual, and economic upliftment of the Konkan region in Maharashtra. Rooted in the Swaroop Sampradaya tradition, the Trust manages an extensive network of healthcare facilities, including a rural medical college, a cancer care center, and specialized diagnostic units. Beyond medicine, the organization fosters community growth through educational institutions, a state-of-the-art sports academy, and sustainable agricultural initiatives such as organic farming and water harvesting. Its mission is anchored in the vision of its spiritual leaders to eliminate poverty and superstition while instilling pride in Indian heritage. By providing essential resources like food, employment, and modern infrastructure, the Trust strives to build a self-sufficient and ethically strong society. This comprehensive approach ensures that basic human needs are met alongside spiritual and physical development.
Our Academic Institutions
Established in 1977 by Shri Sahajanand Saraswati Maharaj, the Shri Vithalrao Joshi Charities Trust (SVJCT) works toward the holistic upliftment of the Konkan region under the vision of “Health, Education, and Empowerment for All.” It creates a “Cillage” ecosystem that integrates modern urban facilities into a rural environment to build a capable and ethical society. Through various social, spiritual, and vocational initiatives, the Trust ensures that the basic needs of the economically weaker sections are met.
Shri Sahajanand Saraswati Maharaj established the Shri Vasudevanant Saraswati Vedpathshala in 1984 to preserve and propagate Vedic culture and traditional Indian values. Students from across India enroll in courses like Vaidiki to memorize the Rigveda and Yadniki to master the 16 major rituals of Hinduism. The Pathshala has gained national prestige, teaching ancient wisdom alongside discipline and yoga to prepare graduates for spiritual leadership.
Spanning 18 acres, SVJCT’s Sports Academy is an international-standard facility designed to promote mental and physical resilience in the younger generation. It offers infrastructure for 18 different disciplines, including an 8-lane synthetic track, a football stadium, a 25-meter swimming pool, and an indoor rifle shooting range. The Academy hosts major events like the annual Dervan Youth Games, providing a platform for local athletes to train and excel at national and international levels.
The B.K.L. Walawalkar Rural Medical College, established in 2015, is a NAAC-accredited institution affiliated with the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences. It offers MBBS and MD/MS programs with an annual intake of 150 and 40 students respectively, training them in a state-of-the-art 80-acre campus. The college aims to create ethical medical professionals who are equipped with global proficiencies to serve underserved rural communities.
S.V.J.C.T.’s English Medium School & Jr. College of Science was launched in 1997 to provide rural children in Konkan with quality education and English fluency. Now a CBSE-affiliated school with over 900 students, it follows a “No Homework” policy and features advanced facilities like Robotics and Space Labs. The institution aims to bridge the educational gap between rural and urban standards, prepare students for competitive higher education.
B.K.L. Walawalkar Hospital, Diagnostic & Research Centre is an 810-bed facility that serves as a medical oasis for the Konkan region. Started in 1996, it provides advanced treatments in oncology, cardiology, and urology, utilizing ultra-modern technology like MRI, Cath Lab, and Nuclear Medicine. The hospital is dedicated to offering quality care to the marginalized, often providing services for free or at subsidized rates through various government schemes.
Established in 2019, the B.K.L. Walawalkar College of Physiotherapy offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees focused on clinical reasoning, research, and community service. The college features cutting-edge amenities, including an advanced Gait Lab and BOBO-Pro machine for treating movement disorders. Its integration with the SVJCT’s Sports Academy significantly enhances student education by providing direct exposure to sports physiotherapy.
Samarth Nursing College was founded to empower rural women by providing them with self-sufficiency and financial independence through nursing education. It offers a range of programs including ANM, GNM, and B.Sc./M.Sc. Nursing, with more than 2,000 girls having completed their training in the last 24 years. Preference is given to local students, many of whom have gone on to secure employment in major cities or even abroad.
