Short Biography of Shree Maharaj

Journey to Mumbai – Employment & Public Awakening

Around 1937-38, Shree Maharaj again left his home and went to stay with his maternal aunt in Kalyan. Shri Madhavrao Jog was the name of her husband. In Kalyan, under the guidance of Shri Ghare, he studied and got trained as a Chemist. He did his best in studying this and excelled with the help of Shri Ghare. He worked for about eighteen hours daily. Everywhere, he used to either walk or go by a bicycle. He used to collect empty bottles from various places wash them cleanly with soap water, fill them with phenyl disinfectant and sell them to make some money.

During 1937-46, he worked as a Medical representative with Indian Drug and Pharmaceuticals Company which was then owned by a Bengali man Dr. Bose.

Shree Maharaj earned a good name in the company in a short time due to his industrious nature. He had in-depth knowledge of the merits/demerits of the medicines and also the usage of these medicines. And this knowledge was not limited to the medicines manufactured in that company only. Because of this extremely sharp, studious, profound, plentiful industrious nature he became very famous as a Medical Representative in no time. Shree Maharajs diligence, will, cleverness, knowledge about medicines, patience regarding work, outspoken nature, and punctuality made a strong impression on Dr. Bose. Dr. Bose twice invited Shree Maharaj to Kolkata. They discussed various topics along with Spiritual subjects. Understanding the spiritual authority of Shree Maharaj, Dr. Bose even expressed his desire that Shree Maharaj should settle in Kolkata.

During this period, Shree Maharaj stayed with his maternal uncle Shri Narahari Narayan Sovani, at Dadar, Mumbai. His daily routine was fixed. He woke up at 4:30 am, finished his morning chores, prayers and then sat for meditation and chanting(Namasmaran). In addition to that, he would read religious books for about 3-4 hours each day. And after all this, he would reach work on time. He would return home around 7-7:30pm and after freshening up he would help the kids at home with their studies. The children -–Datta Sovani, Bhau Biwalkar and Gangadhar Bhave received valuable guidance from him. After dinner, Shree Maharaj would spend time meditating and reading religious books before going to bed. Someone even observed him in deep meditation around midnight. His sleep was limited even at that young age. Moreover, in his spare time, he would assist his aunt in her household chores.

During his Dadar stay, Shree Maharaj had done a lot of voluntary work for the Brahman Seva Mandal. He had started a number of programmes to bring stability to this Mandal. In his young age, he had aced in some dramas organized by the Mandal and had pleased the audience with his excellent dramatic gestures. A vast crowd would attend and listen to his lectures on religious topics. The audience would remain spell-bound with his fluent and unfaltering speech. By this time, the people had become fully aware of his grasp on Jnaneshwari.

He was doing well in his job as well as the Company was prospering. His work on public awakening was in progress. But after 1946, suddenly one day he resigned from his job and returned to Ratnagiri.
