A Brief History of Temple

1954

August 18, 1954: Shree Sadguru Baba Maharaj Sahastrabuddhe (Shree Vasudevanant Saraswati) attained MahaSamadhi at his own plot: 937/D, Chatushrungi Road, Shivajinagar, Pune.

His disciple, Shree Sadguru Digambardas Maharaj, took over the site’s management, initially setting up a temporary shed at the samadhi location.

1956

August 1956: The land was formally leased from Shree Baba Maharaj’s daughter to secure legal ownership of the samadhi site.

A small muth (temple-shrine) was constructed to house the samadhi.

1956–Late 1950s (Post-1956)

Shree Maharaj and Shree Kaka Maharaj undertook significant expansion:

Constructed boundary walls to demarcate and protect the premises.
Added gardens to beautify the surroundings.
Built a water tank for visitors and rituals.
Developed accommodation facilities for devotees staying overnight.

2024

A magnificent black granite temple, approximately 57 feet tall, was built around the samadhi.

Notably, the construction was completed in under a year, fulfilling Shree Baba Maharaj’s wish to create a strong, lasting spiritual center to serve devotees for a thousand years.

Present Day

The temple (mandir) stands as a spiritual beacon in Pune, attracting countless devotees who seek blessings and reflect on the teachings of Shree Baba Maharaj Sahastrabuddhe.
